Morristown is experiencing a season of growth—and it’s something to be proud of. With new hotel developments, population increases, and expanding community infrastructure, the city is quickly becoming a vibrant destination for both residents and visitors. And according to a recent WATE Channel 6 News report, youth sports are playing a major role in that success.
One standout contributor mentioned in the report is Morristown Landing Recreation & Events Center, which Mayor Gary Chesney credited as a key driver in the area’s recent momentum. Since opening in 2023, Morristown Landing has become a regional hub for travel basketball, volleyball tournaments, swim competitions, and other large-scale events. These competitions don’t just bring in athletes—they also bring families, coaches, and fans, many of whom stay overnight in local hotels, eat at our restaurants, and explore what Morristown has to offer.
With the demand for accommodations increasing, the Morristown City Council recently approved a change to the city’s building height ordinance, allowing hotels to expand upward from 45 to 65 feet. Mayor Chesney noted that this update aligns with the current needs of developers and reflects the city’s commitment to managed, sustainable growth.
