The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.
This program offers a choice of first aid, CPR, and AED courses to meet the various training needs of a diverse audience and is offered in a traditional classroom format.

American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Courses
Requirements
Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest
- Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of
both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.) - Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
- Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).
- Submerge to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
The practice sessions will require some strenuous physical activity. If a medical condition or disability exists that might prevent participation in the activities, or there are questions about fully participating in the Lifeguarding course, please contact the aquatic manager.

Lifeguard Training with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illness until emergency medical services personnel take over.
This course includes the following certifications: American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/ First Aid/ CPR/AED (valid for 2 years).
Requirements
Prerequisites:
- Must be 15 years old by the last day of class.
- Swim the following strokes consistent with the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 4 Stroke Performance Criteria:
- Front Crawl – 25 yds
- Back Crawl – 25 yds
- Breaststroke – 25 yds
- Elementary Backstroke – 25 yds
- Sidestroke – 25 yds
- Butterfly – 15 yds
- Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling).
Tread water for 1 minute.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor ® (WSI) Course
Jr. Lifeguard Camp Includes:
- Five lessons (4 hours each): $90
- Monday-Friday 8 am- 12:00 pm
- Friday’s Class Jr. Guards Will Be Given The Opportunity To Shadow One Of Our Staff After Class
- Session 1: June 1st-June 5th
- Session 2: June 29th-July 3rd
Requirements:
- Must be 12-15 years old by June 16th
- Must be able to swim nonstop 50 yards without assistance
- Must be able to tread water for 1 minute
- Must be able to fully submerge head in water
Participants Will Receive:
- Junior Lifeguard Shirt
- Whistle
- Free access to Morristown Landing Aquatic Center during Recreation Swim until Aug. 10th
Junior Lifeguarding Ages 12-15
Junior Lifeguard Camp is a great way to teach teens responsibility and skills while having fun. Students will be introduced to basic lifeguard skills, including water safety, rescue, CPR, AED, and first aid.
